Quitting Coffee? Try These Delicious Drinks Instead

I’ve had a love affair with coffee for over 20 years. When I tried to quit, I'd come crawling back to its
warm taste, flavored creams, and sweeteners. Like any relationship that was no longer serving me, it was time to let it go. I tried the gradual release, and quitting cold turkey, but I'd wind up drinking it again. Then I realized the bloating and dry skin was far from cute.

Dandelion Tea: Historically Proven To Heal Your Tummy

Most people see dandelions and think of weed killer, but in many countries — like Greece and France
— these greens are a dietary staple. My grandmother (from the Greek city of Patras) often served sautéed dandelions with dinner, or turned them into a healing tea. No matter if you were sick, postpartum or plugged up, dandelion was the cure.

Have a Sour Stomach? Try This Smoothie Recipe: Treat Your Tummy Today!

As a functional medicine physician, I believe that most illnesses are rooted in inflammation. The majority of inflammation comes from our diets and our guts. For this reason, the first step in helping to restore the health of my patients is to change their diet and heal their gut.
Below is one of my favorite smoothies that will help to squelch inflammation and heal your leaky gut at the same time.

Want Beautiful Skin Forever? Some Organic Nutrients For Beautiful Skin

Your skin is a reflection of your inner being. Aside from lifestyle and genetics, what you eat plays a role in your skin health. Eating the right foods will not only enhance your natural beauty, it will help minimize wrinkles, acne, inflammation and other skin-related conditions. Most people treat their skin with chemical-ridden products, but don’t address the root cause, which may lie within. Your best-kept beauty secrets are sitting right there in your grocery store! Be sure to eat foods that include these nutrients often, and you'll reap the benefits of having a beautiful, glowing and healthy skin.

Vitamin C
Like vitamin E, vitamin C is also a powerful antioxidant. Vitamin C helps to reduce oxidative stress to the body and may lower cancer risk. Vitamin C is also involved in the synthesis of collagen, an important protein for making your skin supple. Many fruits and vegetables are great sources of vitamin C, so be sure to include them in your diet. Food sources high in vitamin C include: broccoli, Brussels sprouts, kale, bell peppers, guava, acerola, beet greens, grapefruit, strawberries, red and green bell peppers, kale, parsley, collard greens and turnip greens.

You Must Stop Doing These 7 Things If You Want To Get Healthy

Sometimes getting healthier isn’t about the choices you're making, it’s about the choices you should stop making. To live your best, healthiest life, try to add some of these tips to your health and fitness routine.

1. Stop with the excuses.
Everyone has the same amount of time, and to give you some tough love: people who are busier than you are finding time to workout. Do away with the energy-defeating excuses and create time in your day to exercise. You'll feel so much better after you do.

2. Stop skipping workouts.
Working out on the occasional Thursday isn’t going to keep you healthy. Come up with an exercise plan that works for you and stick to it. Maybe you do cardio three times a week and strength training twice a week. Or maybe you'll power walk a couple days a week and swim laps on weekends. Get exercise on your calendar most days of the week, and give yourself one day to skip instead of skipping six.

Depression In 2013:Scientific Proof That Negative Thinking Is Bad For Your Health

The medical establishment has been proving that the mind can heal the body for over 50 years. We call
it “the placebo effect,” and we know that when patients in clinical trials get nothing but sugar pills, saline injections, or fake surgeries—but believe they might be getting the new wonder drug or miracle surgery—their bodies get better 18 to 80% of the time.

Amazing Organic Hair Products: Vegan and Paraben Free Hair Care Products

Organic hair products are all the rage among today’s socially conscious salon clients who demand organic natural beauty. While most of us understand what the word “organic” means, some of us are less clear on the reasons why beauty care products should also be vegan and paraben free.
What Is Vegan? Vegan means the product contains no animal-derived ingredients, including any ingredients produced by animals. It’s this last clause that differentiates vegetarian and vegan products: – Vegetarian products contain no animal ingredients, but they may contain animal-produced ingredients, such as honey or beeswax. – Vegan products contain no honey, beeswax, or any other animal-produced ingredients.

Are You Emotionally Intelligent?

Emotional intelligence? Is such a notion  even conceivable?  Does it not sound like an oxymoron? We all know what an IQ stands for: a unit deployed to measure a person’s intelligence, as far as his or her cognitive abilities are concerned. But do you know that emotions are equally measured? This has given birth to appellations such as ‘emotional intelligence’ and ‘E-IQ’.

Willpower: How To Get It And Keep It

Willpower: I've spent much of my life curious about why some people have it, and some people don't. Some people say they're going to lose 10 pounds, and they do. No struggle. No yo-yo. They simply obey their own minds. Some people decide on an early bedtime so they can get up early. And they do! No arguing with themselves over getting into bed at night, and no snooze-alarm-smack-fest in the morning.

Yoga and Veganism: It's Easy Being Vegan AND Green!

Recently I completed a yoga teacher training program. A requirement of the training was to complete a creative project. My project was about veganism and how it relates to yoga. Many yogis are vegetarian (and many are not). My intention for the project was to educate others on why a vegan diet most closely follows the principles of yoga.
For the non-yogis out there, I have outlined below a brief explanation of yoga beyond the postures or poses (asanas). Most Westerners think yoga is just another ”workout” or a series of stretches. As you will see, yoga is much more than the physical practice.

Dairy Free Banana Nut Oatmeal Smoothie

When I first heard about putting oats into a smoothie I thought it was gross.  Drinking oatmeal?

Now I think it is genius.

When I try to persuade clients to eat oatmeal for helping to decrease their cholesterol levels (yes it does work), the most common response I get is "I don't have time in the morning".

Now you can have your oats in no time at all.

Why Live Like A Vegan: The Environmental Facts

Water. According to the Water Education Foundation, it takes 2,464 gallons of water to produce one pound of beef in California. This is the same amount of water you would use if you took a seven-minute shower every day for six entire months. In contrast, only 25 gallons of water are needed to produce one pound of wheat. The United States Geological Survey says that 40 percent of fresh water used in the U.S. in 2000 went to irrigate feed crops for livestock. Only 13 percent was used for domestic purposes including showers, flushing toilets, washing cars and watering lawns. Switching to a plant-based diet or reducing the amount of meat in your diet is by far the most important choice you can make to save water.

Yes, He Is Smarter Than He Looks, Say Hello To Vegan Athlete Mac Danzig

Mac Danzig is a Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) competitor who has competed at the highest level. He is recognised as an outstanding grappler, although he has scored some impressive victories through striking, and is also known as a quality boxer.

He started his MMA career in 2001 aged 21 and in 2005 won the King Of The Cage Lightweight Championship. He defended the title four times before losing it in 2007. Later that year Mac entered the Ultimate Fighter 6 competition which he won. Other highlights include being awarded Knockout of the Night when he beat Joe Stephenson in December 2010.

Mac is a vegan out of respect for animals.

"Ever since I can remember, I've always had a profound respect and interest in nature and animals"explains Mac. "I remember being 13 and seeing a truck on the interstate filled with pigs all headed to the slaughterhouse. One of them made eye contact with me for a while. It was one of the saddest moments I can remember. There was so much intelligence and spirit in him, and here he was, being sent to an awful death."

At 16, Mac had stopped eating beef and pork. "It wasn't until I was 20 and I got a job working at an animal sanctuary in Pennsylvania called Ooh-Mah-Nee Farm that I was able to meet people who were vegan and realize how strongly some people felt about it and how many healthy alternatives to animal products there were."

Mac was told his commitment to training conflicted with his ethics, and he needed animal protein. He continued to eat chicken as a result, but was never happy with this. "In 2004, I got to the point where I was sick of eating chicken. It started grossing me out for some reason. I was about a month out from a fight and I decided I was going to cut out all meat. I was working with a trainer who was vegan and he helped me make the switch. I won that fight and went on a 12-fight winning streak. And [not eating meat] made it really easy to cut weight for that fight." As he'd already given up all dairy in 1999, he was now vegan.

Luckily for Mac, he'd managed to find a vegan in the sports training world.  "I read a Mike Mahler article on an animal rights Web site where he explained his vegan diet for training in detail, and I said, 'That's it, I can do it too,' and I started 100 percent vegan again for life and I've never looked back. I feel great."

Mac retains a love of animals and has excelled in wildlife photography which can be seen on his website. "When I decided to go vegan, I was able to make the 155-pound weight class much easier, and I haven't lost an ounce of muscle. I'm leaner than I used to be, and I have much more energy than I used to."

"Mac has won numerous world titles in smaller organizations on his way to the UFC and is not only a fighter, but also a teacher of mixed martial arts in his current home of Hollywood California. A vegan, naturalist, animal lover and serious photographer, Danzig transcends the typical stereotype of a combat athlete." (Mac's website.)
